Dr Mia Mostoufi:
Clinical Psychologist (HCPC, AFT Foundation Level)
I am a Clinical Psychologist, working with adults and young people both in-person at HQ Therapy Haggerston and online.
I take a holistic and curious approach to understand why you may be seeking therapy. Typically, therapy starts with hearing about why you came to therapy and a bit about you and your early experiences.
We will work towards building a shared understanding or formulation and, from there, areas you may want to work on. I work with people both shorter-term on a specific focus and in a long-term open-ended way.
I work with individuals who experience a range of difficulties – this may include mood or anxiety, identity, relationships, trauma, or feeling stuck in patterns and ways of being.
I have experience supporting neurodiverse individuals (including, but not limited to, Autism and ADHD) and practice a neuroaffirmative approach. I also welcome queer and LGTBQIA+ individuals.
I also work with young people and their families, who may need support navigating developmental transitions, family life, or mental health difficulties.
Therapeutically, I work integratively, using psychodynamic, attachment and systemic ideas. I recognise and take into account how our sociopolitical and cultural context shape and contribute to difficulties and distress.
My approach is collaborative and relational, thinking about both the therapeutic relationship and other relationships in your life. I hope to provide an exploratory, containing and hopeful space to increase your understanding of yourself and patterns, and to find alternative ways of being.
At times, I may draw upon other approaches such as cognitive-behavioural ideas (CBT) or third-wave approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or Compassion-Focused Therapy.
I completed my Doctorate of Clinical Psychology at University College London. I have several years experience in the NHS across both child (CAMHS, Looked after children’s teams) and primary and secondary care adult services. I have my MSc in Child Development from the Anna Freud Centre and foundation training from the Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice. As a psychologist, I have a grounding in best and evidence-based practices.
Currently, in my NHS work, I work in crisis and inpatient settings.
I offer a free consultation to explore your needs and hopes for therapy, answer questions, and to give you an opportunity to consider if we are the right fit. Finding a therapist can be a daunting task. Please feel free to reach out
