Dr. Mohammad Gharib of Iran: His Inspiring Life and Legacy

Dr. Gharib was arguably one of the most prominent physicians in Iran during the second half of twentieth century. After completing a stellar education in France, he returned home in 1938 and for the next four decades practiced medicine and trained residents and specialists in Iran. He was honored as the "Father of Pediatrics" in Iran and was the recipient of many accolades during his life and posthumously. His political views and religious inclinations were admired and praised by friends and foes.Pediatrics, as a specialty in Iran, owes its beginning and growth to one person: Dr. Mohammad Gharib. He was the person responsible for introducing pediatrics in Iran and help it grow as a specialty. He helped develop Iranian Pediatric Society, pediatrics training, and its specialty Boards. We believe doctors who trained in pediatrics in Iran from 1940 to 1975, owe much of their education and experience to Dr Mohammad Gharib.
