Hercules and the Hound of Hades

In Greek mythology, Hercules, the demigod hero, was tasked with completing Twelve Labors as penance for a past transgression.In his twelfth and final labor, Hercules is commanded by his cowardly cousin, King Eurystheus, to descend into the Underworld and return with the Hound of Hades, Cerberus, the monstrous three-headed hound that guards the gates of the Underworld.Guided by the Olympian God Hermes, Hercules entered the chilling realm of the dead. Along his way, he faced shades (souls of the deceased) and the immense weight of his own past guilt before reaching his goal.With no weapon other than his legendary strength, Hercules wrestled the snarling, poison-drooling Cerberus into submission with his bare hands. To complete his last labor, he brought the hound from the Underworld to the upper world of the living.On presenting Cerberus to a terrified King Eurystheus, he was ordered to return the hound immediately.Returning Cerberus unharmed to the Underworld successfully, his twelve labors were completed and earned him release from his penance and gaining legendary status among gods and mortals.
