Born with cerebral palsy and hospitalized for the first several years of his life, Matthew Famiglietti left the hospital as a young boy to live in the Projects at Smith Street in Poughkeepsie, New York. His family moved to Charleston when his mother fled domestic abuse in New York. There, his mother courageously fought the system to get him educated. He tells the first-hand story of the civil rights movement as it unfolded in his own high school and the movement to integrate disabled children into the mainstream of society. He developed a keen interest in politics and justice. Against the odds, Matthew graduated from high school, then from college, and finally from Law School. He went on to marry, and then to open a successful law office first in South Carolina and finally in Washington, DC. Matthew has been politically active since the age of 13, working to improve the lives of others. Matthew's story gives inspiration to families who have children with disabilities and encourages them to seek the full potential of their children, regardless of their disabilities. When every individual is given the opportunity to reach their full potential in life, regardless of their station in life, America will reach its full greatness. The Book of Matthew is the inspiring story of an ordinary individual not only overcoming a disability and personal obstacles but rising to the top of his chosen profession to live out the principles of the Sermon on the Mount to be his brothers and sisters keeper.
