Nicol Batra:
Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist (BACP student member)
Hello and thank you in advance for reading this. I’m Nicol Batra, a psychotherapist in training and seeing clients at the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston and Dalston, Hackney, London E8.
I am pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling at CPPD and am an insured member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I am currently available to work with clients online and in-person and am available weekday evenings and Saturday mornings (please see my working hours below).
My own journey as a client has been panoramic and transformational. I’m driven to pay this forward and help others as best I can.
I’m passionate about working psychotherapeutically with those in need, or those who want to explore and ideate from mind and spirit. I work singularly and thoroughly, seeking always to be present, authentic, collaborative, Zen.
I believe in a psychotherapy approach which is widescreen, celestial, and open to anyone who wants to explore themselves. Wholeness can be brought within reach incrementally.
Starting therapy can feel intimidating but you will find my approach to be centred on you and your desire to grow. Change is possible.
The best bouquets are made up of many different flowers. This is how I feel about working with a wide range of clients and this spans the diversity of ethnicities, gender identities and sexual orientations amongst other dimensions. As a second-generation British Indian, I carry both Eastern and Western traditions in me.
We can work with whatever presents – feeling overwhelmed, depression, relationships, anger, grief and loss. Fear for the future, regrets about the past. I am keenly interested in sexuality, shame and truth.
I have begun to explore areas of specialism: addiction, eating disorders, working with suicide, trauma and anger management, as well as male identity issues.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to support others close to me through their questioning or indeed their crises. Those moments in life when it is better to let light banish the darkness.
All of this allows me to bring to the therapy space: authenticity, truth, realness, relatability, respect and empathy.
To any prospective client, I say: “you are a unique sentient being, and yet we number approximately 8 billion on this planet, and our commonality is powerful.”
The work is largely about relationships – with self and with others. I will always treat you, the client, with compassion – a human being to be respected and accepted as you are.
My training has allowed me to explore the principles of Person-Centred Therapy, Attachment Theory, Gestalt, and Transactional Analysis (TA). All of these weave together in my approach, and further depth can be reached using techniques drawn from the psychodynamic and the transpersonal.
Most valued of all is the therapeutic relationship. Healing comes from growth, growth from change, change from trust.
