Shanaz Begum Integrative Psychotherapist and Coach London E8Shanaz Begum:

Trainee Integrative Psychotherapist & Coach (BACP student member)

Hello! My name is Shanaz Begum. I am a trainee Integrative Psychotherapist and Coach working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston and Dalston, Hackney, London E8.

I am a registered student member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am currently completing an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Coaching at the University of East London.

What attracted me to counselling as a career was the positive experiences of personal therapy at a time when I was going through great trauma.

As well as processing difficult experiences, I discovered hidden strengths and gained a better understanding of how my thoughts and feelings impacted my life choices.

I believe everybody can benefit from having a safe and non-judgemental space to explore one’s present life experiences, address issues related to past experiences, and find a way to move forwards with a better sense of self-awareness, optimism, and purpose.

How we will work together:
So you are considering counselling? Perhaps you know what you want to explore. Maybe you are unsure of how counselling can be beneficial for you. Maybe you have had counselling experiences in the past and want to try again.

Maybe you are curious but don’t know how to proceed. You have taken the first step by approaching HQ Therapy!

So, what happens next? I will contact you, and in our first session, discuss what brought you to counselling, and together decide how to work together.

What I offer:
As an integrative practitioner, I am skilled at drawing on several types of therapy approaches such as Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to name a few. Therefore, I can tailor my counselling methods to match your needs.

This will enhance your understanding of your life experiences. I will provide a safe, non-judgemental environment, allowing you to explore your inner and outer conflicts, and work through them in a supportive way, at your pace.

I am also an accredited Coach. So when you are ready to start making meaningful changes to your life, I will collaborate with you using coaching methods. I will support you to make decisions that will enable you to live your life in line with your personal values.

More about me:
Alongside working as a therapist, I work within GP surgeries as a Health Coach. I have many years of experience in supporting people with chronic health issues, mental health challenges, relationship problems, and social issues such as isolation.

I work holistically to understand the physical, emotional, and social factors which can have an impact on people’s well-being.

Through taking a person-centred approach, I will work collaboratively with you to identify your strengths and draw out hidden resources to increase your self-knowledge and personal resilience. Thereby, you will feel more empowered to take control of your own well-being.

I work with adults in one-to-one individual therapy sessions. I am currently available for face-to-face short-term and long-term work.

Thank you for your time. Please get in touch!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
