Cecilia Carlotti (BCP) (TSP):
My name is Cecilia Carlotti and I am a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist based at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, London E8. Choosing to approach therapy is commonly a difficult matter. The idea of sharing personal, painful details of ourselves with someone unknown can be felt as uncomfortable and unnatural; at the same time there might be the concern of getting exposed to judgments and criticisms.
If you are thinking of starting a therapy you may be willing to deal with painful issues that can manifest in various shapes and intensity and have an impact on the day-to-day life; such issues are personal and linked both to personality and life events. A disturb can express in different ways and symptoms, like panic attacks, Depression, psychosomatic symptoms, Anxiety etc. Other times there is rather a generic feeling of discomfort that needs to be defined and addressed.
I am a qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapist with a background in Clinical Psychology. I achieved the “Professional Qualification in Intercultural Psychodynamic Psychotherapy” (Qualifying course in psychodynamic psychotherapy) at the Tavistock and Portman Foundation Trust in London. I am a member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP). My passion and speciality is helping adults and young adults experiencing temporary and/or long term mental health difficulties, assessing what is most appropriate to every person’s need.
I can provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space that allows exploration of overwhelming and complex emotions. I believe in the importance of keeping the focus on the other’s needs with open and sensitive listening. You will be gradually encouraged to think about internal and external worlds, considering both the past and the present; you might thus acknowledge how early experiences might have affected current relationships and the overall responses to the external world. This process can help to better understand and overcome some dysfunctional patterns of behaviour and long term difficulties, the aim of which to opening up to a more fulfilling life.
I work with you to define the parameters of the treatment, with the final purpose of increasing self-awareness and building up internal resources.
My approach is psychodynamic. This kind of therapy is valuable both in the case of particular emotional difficulties and mental health issues, such as Depression, Anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem or complex relationships patterns, as well as simply to deepen the individual’s understanding of him/herself.
Patients attend a fifty-minute session once per week. The terms of the therapeutic contract, which include time, frequency and breaks, will be agreed together during the consultation, which usually lasts two-three meetings (each of them has a duration of one-one and a half hours). My approach is very attuned and each individual need will be carefully assessed case by case.
I can work both in English and Italian language.
