Dr. Terri Porter:
My name is Dr. Terri Porter, I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist practicing at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney E8.
Making the decision to seek therapy can often be very difficult and I recognise that many people may consider therapy for months or longer before contacting a therapist. I therefore strive to create a safe space that is supportive, empathic and non-judgemental.
I understand that whilst I may hold the knowledge of working with psychological distress, nobody will know more about your experiences that you do. I hope that during therapy, we can collaboratively develop a shared understanding of your difficulties, how and why they might have developed and what might be keeping them going. This will inform the therapy process and help us to consider areas for change.
I predominantly work using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This model of therapy is focussed on the here and now and can help us identify and challenge potentially unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. CBT can often be useful for working with difficulties such as low mood, anxiety, traumatic life experiences, low self-esteem and low self-confidence, and managing stress in general. However, as a Clinical Psychologist, I am trained in a variety of psychological approaches and will integrate these depending on your needs.
I hold degrees from the University of Sussex and The Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London. Most recently I completed my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Surrey.
I am a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) – the statutory body responsible for regulating health care professionals within the UK.
