Geraldine Meadows Integrative Counsellor and Coach London E8Geraldine Meadows:

Integrative Counsellor & Coach (Personal Consultant) (BABCP)

My name is Geraldine Meadows, I am an integrative counsellor and coach (personal consultant), working out of HQ Therapy Rooms in Dalston, Hackney, London E8.

I believe every one of us deserves to feel peaceful, content, and at ease in our own skin. I also know we don’t always get to choose the experiences that happen to us, and that we don’t always get to write the beginning of our own stories.

The work of psychotherapy gives you a chance to take stock of where your life is now, to explore why you feel as you do and provides a safe, secure base from which to work out your next step.

The opportunity to have time, just for you, where you are met with kindness, warmth, and understanding can allow new perspectives to emerge.

It’s a fresh chance to discover and hear your own voice, examine your own feelings and get to know yourself in a new way.

So many of our processes sit beneath the conscious level – meaning we make decisions and act on content that we’re not fully aware of. Undertaking talking therapy allows a chance for some of these to rise to the conscious level and for us to understand and know ourselves more fully than ever before.

I work in an integrative way with clients, blending elements of person-centred, psychodynamic and existential theory, to find the best mix for you.

My training also includes a qualification in coaching because, as well as your past, I am also deeply interested in your future and in supporting you to discover what you want and working with you to map a way forward.

It’s my view that counselling is work – it takes courage, commitment, and effort from us both. If you’re ready to take the first step, I am here to be your companion and join you on the journey.

Training and Qualifications:
I have received a postgraduate diploma with distinction in Integrative Counselling and Coaching from the University of East London and graduated with an MA in Philosophy in 1999. I am committed to holistic self-care and have practised yoga and mindfulness for over a decade.

In a prior life, I worked in communications roles within the corporate sector, creating strategy and supporting senior leaders – as such, I have an innate understanding of the demands of a busy life and juggling conflicting demands.

I volunteer one day a week with the Hackney Centre for Better Health, providing pro-bono counselling to clients who are tackling a wide range of issues including anxiety, loss, family conflict, and relationship problems.

My Availability:
I currently am providing therapy sessions to clients online, in-person and via phone and have some availability, on Monday and Wednesday afternoons only, for short-term work over the summer months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
