Master Practitioner of Cognitive Hypnotherapy & NLP
My name is Hazel Gale, I am a master practitioner of Cognitive Hypnotherapy and NLP based at HQ Therapy Rooms in Haggerston, London E8. I also work as a speaker, workshop facilitator and I’m the author of The Mind Monster Solution.
I’ve been running my private therapy practice for just shy of a decade, working with people who recognise that their lives or careers are hindered by anxiety, doubt, and limited self-belief. The majority of my clients come from creative, sporting or corporate backgrounds, and we work together to shift the unconscious and emotional blocks that stand in their way.
Before qualifying as a therapist, I competed internationally as a kickboxer and boxer, achieving World, European and National titles across the two sports. My experience of fighting, however, was not all glory and gold medals. Over time, chronic anxiety along with a host of other psychological and behavioural problems led me into a paralysing emotional and physical burn-out.
It was Cognitive Hypnotherapy the got me back on my feet as well as into the ring, and my final few years of competition were of stark contrast to the struggle I had at the beginning. Therapy, for me, was about more than just tackling the monsters of my mind — it was a process that taught me how to love, respect and value myself, and to discover a true sense of purpose that changed my perspective on life.
As a therapist, my aim is to help my clients emerge victorious from their own emotional battles so that they can achieve the same.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy, an evidence-based approach
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a modern, amalgamative approach based on recent discoveries from neuroscience. We take from a mix of different therapeutic influences including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Positive Psychology, Gestalt Therapy, Traditional Hypnotherapy and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). Sessions involve a range of different processes including conversational work, guided visualisation, and hypnotic suggestion, as well as techniques designed to reframe past experiences, shift blocked emotions and actively address negative thinking.
In 2015, a pilot study conducted into the efficacy of Cognitive Hypnotherapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety was published in the Mental Health Review Journal. It showed that, across a sample of 118 cases in the UK, 71% of the participants considered themselves recovered after an average of four sessions. This compared to a success rate of 42% for other approaches like CBT using the same measures.
I conduct double-length sessions, lasting approximately 90 minutes, but our work together is not limited to the time we spend in the office. While I see you as a client, we’ll be in contact between sessions via email and occasionally over the phone. Depending on how you like to work, I may task you with short creative projects or journaling programs, which we’ll speak about between sessions. I’ll also be writing and recording personalised hypnotherapy scripts for you to listen to at home. These form a key part of the therapy process and work as a means to train the mind into better thought patterns.
For new clients, I recommend a booking a block of three in-office sessions over the course of six to nine weeks of work. The price for this period is £650.
After the initial block, single sessions can be booked at £235 per session (secondary block bookings are always available, and we’ll space the sessions at the frequency we feel best).
Please note that I have a waiting list that usually extends to around two or three months. Booking three sessions upfront ensures that we will see each other at the optimal frequency, rather than having to wait long periods between meetings. If, however, you’d rather come for a single session in the first instance, this can be arranged.
