Mark Davies (MBACP):
Integrative LGBTQ+ Counsellor
My name is Mark Davies and I am an Integrative Relational Counsellor; my practice is based at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, London E8.
I work mainly with people who identify within the LGBT / LGBTQ+ / GSRD spectrum, and those living with health issues like HIV; I also work with those who wish to explore their own sense of gender or sexual identity.
This sense of identity – our uniqueness – and how we might feel different from others can impact our life and lead us to feel a sense of isolation, confusion, anger, and numbness. Many of us have built ‘defenses’ from our early years because of this, and perhaps we did not feel acceptance from those around us, be it from family, society, school, work, and so on.
Through exploring how you relate to others and the world around you, we will work to build a greater understanding of how you relate to yourself. At a pace that is safe, containing, accepting and non-judgemental, we will look at some of the current issues that you may be facing, and work to gradually understand what may be behind them with a view to bringing about gradual changes so that life might become more fulfilling, rewarding and peaceful.
Your uniqueness in yourself is something to be held with pride.
I work with a relational approach, that is to say, to look at how you relate both outside and within the therapy room; the idea being is that it has the potential to better inform all relation-ships. It is an integrative model that allows me to combine theoretical approaches at any given moment within therapy. We may go beyond talking, if the moment arises, and look at dreams, guided visualizations, and breathing exercises.
As our therapeutic ‘alliance’ builds, so the trust can build between us, and the aim is that you will have experienced enough change and growth to feel stronger and more resilient within yourself, moving to feel a sense of pride, acceptance, and openness.
We will have an initial assessment session in order to establish what your aims and hopes for therapy are and to get a feel for how we might work together. If you choose to work with me, we would review how the work is going after about five or six sessions – we can then decide on how much longer you need, be it a fixed number or open-ended number of sessions.
I am qualified with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Reg No. 379659). I work on a one-to-one basis with adults. I have worked with people in various mental wellbeing settings for the past 10 years, such as Samaritans, Metro, and THT.
£50 for a 50 minute session; sessions take place at a regular time every week, agreed with you.
