Sammy Alattar (MBACP):
Hello, my name is Sammy Alattar and I’m a qualified Integrative Counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I provide both open-ended and short-term psychotherapy at HQ Therapy in Dalston and Haggerston, as well as other East London locations.
What I can offer you
What I offer is a safe, confidential, empathetic and non-judgemental space for you to explore and unpick whatever it is you’re struggling with, no matter how unmanageable, vague, irrational, unthinkable or unspeakable it may seem to you at the moment. Together we can shine a light on what is troubling you, to help you find your own unique way through it.
Your reasons for seeking out therapy may be that something is missing from your life rather than any particular or obvious issue. Here I can support you to discover what is lacking in your daily existence and pinpoint your unmet needs to find purpose, meaning and fulfilment.
I work with many issues, though I specialise in working with depression, anger, guilt, relationship/attachment issues, perfectionism, the legacy of narcissistic parents/partners, life transitions, lack of intimacy, loneliness and existential concerns.
I also have extensive experience working with anxiety, shame, workplace issues, prejudice, family estrangement, intercultural partnership, lack of meaning, infidelity, social isolation and bullying.
How I work
Being an “integrative” therapist means I bring together humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, somatic and cognitive approaches, as well as myself and my own life experiences, in the way I practise. This enables me to work from a variety of perspectives in a natural, non-dogmatic way, tailoring therapy to your individual, evolving needs.
My philosophy for practice is a “bio-psycho-social-spiritual” one. This means I consider biological, psychological, social (& economic) and spiritual factors to be interrelated and of equal importance in contributing to a person’s psychological well-being. I believe that gaining awareness of, giving attention to and focusing efforts on multiple factors simultaneously promotes deeper, longer-term, more sustainable and more resilient mental as well as physical health.
Before training as a counsellor I had an office-based career for many years, as well as stints working in kitchens, in events and as a recording/performing musician, and I’m familiar with the
challenges faced by those who are trying to make a living in similar situations.
I am mixed-race, of British, Iraqi and Iranian heritage, and have lived experience of growing up in an intercultural, interfaith environment.
If you would like to explore working with me then the first step is to send me a message. I will then contact you to introduce myself and together we can arrange a free 30-minute phone consultation.
This is an opportunity for us to get acquainted, to discuss the practical side of things and for you to ask any questions about me or the way I work. We’ll also talk about what brings you to therapy and how I/it may help you.
If at the end of the call you feel that you would like to try therapy with me then we can arrange the first session and take it from there.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Fees & availability
I currently have some availability for weekly therapy on Wednesday afternoon/evening and Thursday morning/afternoon. My fee for a 50-minute session is £50.
