My name is Siobhan Tierney, I am a Clinical Psychologist who is registered with both the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS), working at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, E8.
I am trained to work with people of all ages, using a range of psychological techniques. My professional registrations show that I meet the standards of two organisations that monitor the quality of care offered by professionals. I offer assessments and therapeutic interventions to people who are experiencing some kind of psychological discomfort that prevents them from living life to its fullest.
Most of my experience comes from working with children and adolescents. I also have lots of experience in working with working age and older adults. I have worked in a range of settings, including both mainstream and specialist schools, community mental health teams, secure inpatient wards, forensic units, the NHS and Social Care. I have also completed assessments and reports for Court. I work with people with a range of difficulties, needs, and preferences. I adapt my approach to suit individual differences (e.g. learning issues; diagnoses of neurodevelopmental conditions) and take the time to fully understand the person I am working with. I have completed and published research articles and work hard to stay up-to-date with innovative and evidence-based methods. I am passionate about my work and strongly believe in what I do.
I take my time to thoroughly explore all areas of a person’s life during the assessment process. I try to develop an understanding of a person’s situation and factors that have influenced their life so far. I hold an open mind when asking about what a person requires help with and strive to identify their strengths alongside the areas they are struggling with. I can offer assessment reports with recommendations, as required.
Formulation involves bringing together the information gathered during the assessment and applying my understanding of psychological theory to it. It is about developing an understanding of the situation in a way that helps the person make sense of things. It helps us identify goals for our work.
I use a range of techniques to work towards goals. This involves me being flexible in my approach whilst remaining clearly focused on what the person needs. I have training in models including (but not limited to) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Yoga Therapy and Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA). I have experience in working with people with a vast array of needs, such as depression, Post-Traumatic Stress and Obsessional Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I try to help people move away from what is keeping them stuck and towards a more fulfilling way of living. I can work 1:1 with people, and/or include others in my work, as required (e.g. bringing family members into sessions or getting supplementary information from other professionals).
