Tanya English Integrative Counsellor

Tanya English:

Trainee Integrative Counsellor

My name is Tanya English, I am a trainee therapist working in the low-cost therapy and counselling service at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, London E8.

I am enjoying training at the University of East London, on their Masters in Integrative Counselling and Coaching course.

I enjoy connecting with all sorts of people. As a warm and empathetic person, I make a good listener and a good sounding board too. I am non-judgemental and curious and encouraging about how people can come to live their best life, whatever their circumstances or personal challenges. So I hope to meet you, and support you on your next steps.

I do not come with a fixed idea about what your ‘problems’ or ‘solutions’ are – or indeed which of the many counselling theories to apply, with all their confusing names. My integrative training means I have a range of counselling theories and practises to draw from.

Instead, I will work alongside you, as your ally, adapting my approach and checking in as we go along. I will listen deeply to your troubles, experiences and emotions and ideas, however heavy they are or uncertain they make you feel. And together we can explore ways to help you to (re)discover your strengths and opportunities, and to live life more fully and with less stress and distress.

Everyone’s journey is different. You might like to know I have a range of experience (both personal and/or professional) in mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and dementia, and life events such as chronic illness, career change, homelessness, infertility, birth trauma, bereavement and being a carer.

So, I know life can be tough and lonely – that finding a supportive place through therapy to off-load and explore issues that are troubling you can really help – and that life can be exciting, rewarding and full of joy.

My previous recent career was in homelessness and mental health, and before that, I worked in the arts. Making music and connecting with people, whatever their circumstances, have always been important to me. I have volunteered for nearly two years on a support and information line for people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and I have also been Chair of a major charity, having worked in charity senior management for many years.

In the longer term, I aim to specialise in supporting people who are living with long term health conditions.

Naturally, I am fully insured, and a member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

Finally, I am happy to see you online or in-person – whatever works best for you.
