Melanie Cox
Psychotherapist & Couples Therapist Specialist (MBACP)
I’m a fully qualified and registered MBACP Psychotherapist, and founder of HQ Therapy, a large mental health practice based in Highbury and Hackney.
My practice is focused on couples therapy, supporting partners to strengthen their connection, improve communication, and work through challenges together.
I am Gottman Institute trained and also draw on the approaches of Sue Johnson (EFT) and Terry Real (Relational Life Therapy). This means my work blends practical tools, emotional depth, and relational insight.
Couples Therapy
In our sessions, we’ll work on:
- Breaking unhealthy communication cycles and building accountability
- Learning skills to manage conflict and improve communication
- Deepening intimacy and empathy
- Understanding emotional patterns and attachment needs
Sessions usually begin fortnightly, with flexibility as your needs change to meet more or less frequently.
I am happy to arrange a call to discuss working in a group if this is something you are interested in.
My Approach:
I combine leading couples therapy models, drawing on:
- Gottman Method
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Relational Life Therapy (RLT)
- Attachment-based and psychodynamic approaches
- Mindfulness and body-based practices
Most couples can move forward, no matter how stuck things may feel — the key is the willingness to do the work together.
