Silvia Correia:
Psychodynamic Psychotherapist (BACP)
My name is Silvia Correia, I am a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist working face-to-face at HQ Therapy Rooms, offering weekly therapy in Haggerston to short-term and/or long-term clients. I offer reduced-cost therapy to those who need it and can also offer online counselling.
I have recently qualified from an MA in Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic Counselling at Goldsmiths University and also have a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling from Goldsmiths. I am a registered member of the BACP, adhering to their ethical guidelines, and undertake regular supervision.
My approach is predominantly Psychodynamic in nature, but having done an Integrative PG previously to this, I tend to tailor my approach to an individual’s needs, and I lead with empathy first and foremost. I aim to provide clients with a confidential, supportive and non-judgmental environment so that they can speak freely about their innermost thoughts and feelings, and whatever they may be experiencing, at their own pace. Opening yourself up to honest communication can be really difficult, so I aim to make this as easy and stress-free as possible for my clients.
I have worked with both adults and young children, dealing with issues ranging from domestic abuse and self-worth issues in adults, through to neglect and developmental issues in children. Through working with children, I saw firsthand how essential it is to regulate a person’s emotions and behaviours so that things don’t become more challenging in adult life.
As a third culture kid, I have firsthand experience of growing up in a variety of places and being exposed to multiple cultures from a very young age. This has exposed me to a multitude of different perspectives, which has been useful in the therapy room.
Being able to speak to an impartial other about the difficulties you are experiencing can help rationalise thoughts and validate feelings you may not believe you are able to feel. It can help process where and why those feelings and thoughts arise. It is why I truly believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of why therapy works, and why it is crucial that you find the right therapist for you.
Having said this, I am happy to offer an introductory call to answer any questions you may have and to see whether you would be happy to go ahead with a first session. This first session will be charged at half the rate so that you can ask any further questions and so that we can gauge whether the way that I work fits with what you are looking for. If we decide to work together, the next session will be booked in at the full rate.
I am currently available for weekly in-person sessions on Fridays from 5pm-8pm at HQ Haggerston, or online at a time convenient to both of us, and I look forward to meeting you and doing the work together.
