What Is Reflexology?: Sometimes called ‘zone therapy’ or ‘reflex massage’, reflexology massage therapy is a non-invasive complementary and wellbeing therapy based on the theory that all parts of the body are mirrored in smaller areas on the hands, feet, face and ears. Supportive touch in these areas can provide relief or healing at the desired point.
Like other therapies derived from traditional Chinese medicine, reflexology believes that your life energy (Qi), or ‘vital energy’ should flow freely through your body and that blockages in your Qi lead to imbalances in your body that lead to illness and distress. It works on your energy pathways in a similar way to acupuncture.
What does reflexology do?: Reflexologists use carefully calibrated pressure on your hands, feet, face and ears to direct healing energy through your body to the affected area. They will ask you about your health and your lifestyle before they begin, and you will usually be lying down or in a reclining chair for this treatment.
Many people report feeling a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing during and after treatment. Reflexology massage may help to
- reduce stress
- reduce pain
- anxiety & depression
- lift mood
- boost their immune system
- correct hormonal imbalances
- improve general wellbeing
