Damien Kelly:
Attachment-Based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (BACP)
Hello, I’m Damien, a qualified Attachment-Based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and a proud member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), as well as a member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS). I fully recognise that seeking psychotherapy is a significant step in your journey, and I am committed to supporting you at every turn.
My goal is to create a warm and compassionate environment where you feel safe exploring your thoughts and emotions. Together, we will forge a trusting relationship tailored to your individual experiences, ensuring you feel both heard and empowered.
As an Attachment-Based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, I am fully committed to nurturing a supportive and empathetic space that encourages positive transformation. My therapeutic practice is grounded in Bowlby’s attachment theory, which investigates the profound influence of our earliest relationships with caregivers, such as parents, during our formative years.
This approach emphasises the crucial role of early bonds in our development, fostering a healthy sense of self while addressing the challenges arising from insecure and unsupportive relationships.
In this context, attachment therapy thrives on a collaborative connection between therapist and client.
Additionally, I incorporate psychoanalytic techniques to explore unconscious processes, offering more profound insights into the complexities of the human mind. I possess extensive experience aiding individuals grappling with trauma, substance misuse (including chemsex), shame, loss, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. My background includes supporting those affected by institutionalised childhood sexual abuse.
I have successfully applied Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills to offer personalised assistance to individuals diagnosed with Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD) or those exhibiting similar traits.
I earned a BA Hons in Psychology from Trinity College, Dublin, followed by an MSc in Clinical Psychology from Goldsmiths, University of London. In my role as an Inspired Personality Disorder Service Manager, I provided DBT for those diagnosed with personality disorders.
My professional journey also comprises four years of UKCP-accredited training in attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Bowlby Centre in London. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP) and a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS).
My career has spanned various settings, including private practice, the National Health Service (NHS), and the voluntary sector.
