Tom Craig:
Psychodynamic Psychotherapist (BACP)
My Name is Tom Craig, I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist, working in the reduced-rate service at HQ Therapy in Haggerston, Hackney, London E8.
I offer short- and long-term psychodynamic psychotherapy, with the aim of creating a safe, open, and collaborative space in which to talk and think about feelings and experiences that might be troubling you, or that you might be struggling to make sense of.
An important idea in psychodynamic psychotherapy is that none of us has a complete picture of why it is we think, feel, and act the way we do.
Much of the time this isn’t an issue, but sometimes we can find ourselves feeling distressed or acting in ways we find troubling without really being sure why.
By encouraging you to share whatever is on your mind and listening non-judgementally, we can work together to try and get a sense of how things outside your awareness might be affecting you.
Talking to someone who listens carefully to what you have to say and takes your experience seriously can help you to fill in the gaps in the past and the present, get a clearer sense of why you’re feeling the way you are, and feel more integrated and ready to move forward.
Experience and Qualifications:
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work within their ethical framework and code of conduct.
I have experience working in private practice and at a community therapy service in Hackney, working with a diverse range of clients struggling with a variety of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, work and relationship problems, and a general sense of dissatisfaction with life.
I also work as an honorary psychodynamic psychotherapist in the NHS at the Maudsley Hospital in South London.
I have an MSc in Psychological Therapies Practice and Research (Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy) from the University of Exeter. In addition, I am currently undertaking advanced doctoral training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the University of Exeter and the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF), leading to accreditation with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).
I know that contacting a therapist is not always an easy thing to do, and can involve a lot of anxiety. A first meeting would be a chance for us to get to know each other a bit, and for you to see if you feel comfortable talking to me, which I believe is the most important thing.
Please do get in touch if you would like to ask any questions or set up an initial meeting.
