Marie-Lou Steul Trainee Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist London E8Marie-Lou Steul:

Trainee Psychosexual & Relationship Therapist (NCIP, COSRT student member)

I’m Marie-Lou Steul, a trainee psychosexual and relationship therapist, and I’m here to help you make sense of and resolve the mental health challenges that you may be experiencing in your romantic relationships or sex life.

I provide a caring and completely non-judgmental environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself. Together we’ll help you find or rediscover the joy and fulfilment that you’ve been missing in your romantic and sexual relationships.

My passion extends beyond addressing specific health-related challenges; I am enthusiastic about assisting individuals with relational issues connected to sexuality, such as concerns related to orientation, identity, and personal exploration.

In my therapeutic approach, I am committed to reducing stigma and fostering open dialogues around sexuality.

My training is with the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology (CICS) which holds special significance as the first course endorsed by Pink Therapy as a Gender, Sexuality, and Relationship Diversity inclusive qualification.

This endorsement, coupled with my practical experience, has prepared me to approach a diverse range of presentations with both knowledge and empathy.

How I can help you:

I currently offer psychotherapy to individuals grappling with sexual function-related health and well-being concerns. And from April 2024, I will also be offering couples therapy. I can help you:

  • Address sexual function-related health and well-being concerns such as unreliable erections, premature or delayed ejaculation, pain on penetration, difficulty with orgasms, intimacy issues, and anxiety with sexual relations.
  • Explore the intricacies of relationship dynamics so that you can understand and navigate your romantic relationships better.
  • Explore and address worries connected to sexuality, sexual orientation, identity, and personal exploration so that you can feel free and comfortable being your true self in your public and intimate life.
  • Foster open dialogues around sexuality, preferences, and kinks, to help reduce the stigma and shame you may have associated with such things in the past.
  • Learn about better sexual health, so you can enjoy fulfilling and safe sexual experiences.

What is my therapeutic approach:
My professional training is in “pluralism“, incorporating various therapeutic approaches to cater to the unique needs of each client. Pluralism, in essence, involves utilising a diverse range of methods and perspectives to tailor therapy to you as an individual.

During the process of pluralistic therapy, both the therapist and the client openly share their perspectives on the origins of the client’s issues. Together, we will collaborate to explore different explanations, ultimately determining the most relevant ones.

The goal is to transcend rigid adherence to specific therapeutic schools, realigning around therapy based on your needs and benefits.

I am dedicated to taking the time to understand and explore what specifically works for you in a caring and non-shaming manner. My commitment extends beyond the therapeutic setting to contribute positively to the discourse on sexual health and relationships, fostering a more open and understanding society.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Should I Seek Therapy?

Many people, new to this type of help, believe that they need to be suffering from “mental illness” or serious “psychological problems”, or be in crisis in order for therapy and counselling to be appropriate for them. This is a common misconception; anyone can benefit from therapy when it comes to helping you deal with your personal feelings and problems, make positive changes in your life, and understand yourself better.

So what is therapy and counselling? If you’re new to this world then the first steps can sometimes be the most difficult. Therapy can be a very effective treatment for a whole range of personal problems covering areas from physical and emotional problems, different types of behavioural disorders, through to human sexuality issues and a host of wellbeing and complementary therapy techniques.

Any problem you have that is causing you concern, anxiety or distress is a valid and appropriate reason to reach out and find a therapist and talk to them about it. Far from something to be ashamed of, acknowledging your vulnerability and asking for help is a sign of maturity and strength.

If you feel that you have a desire and are committed to making changes in your life in order to overcome your current problems and achieve more long-term satisfaction, psychological wellbeing and personal fulfilment, then you are ready to seek therapy. We are here to help you work through a wide range of therapy issues that might be troubling you.

Will Information About Me Be Safe & Secure?

It is quite normal to be hesitant when it comes to sharing private and intimate information about yourself with a stranger. You may fear that you will receive judgment from your therapist, or that your therapist will share your details with others.

HQ Therapy Rooms takes your privacy and confidentiality very seriously. Our therapists are required to keep everything said in therapy sessions between you, just like your doctor is required to keep your records private.

For therapy to be effective, there must be unconditional trust built between you and your therapist, and this relies on a shared understanding of confidentiality. It applies to the outside world as well: it is standard practice for therapists not to acknowledge their clients if they run into them outside of the therapy rooms in order to help protect their client’s confidentiality. Read our full privacy policy for more information.
