Emma Buck (BACP):
Counsellor & Personal Consultant, Adults & Children
I’m Emma Buck, an integrative counsellor and personal consultant working with adults and children at HQ Therapy Rooms in Hackney, London E8.
People seek counselling, coaching or other therapies for many different reasons – from a general feeling of being lost or stuck to dealing with a trauma or crisis, past or present. Some people may be facing difficult decisions or feeling at one of life’s crossroads. Whatever brings you to counselling we will explore it together to help you find meaning and a way forward.
I believe human beings have an enormous capacity for change, personal growth and the development of deeper insight and awareness, given the right conditions. I will not advise or direct, but offer a safe, accepting, non-judgemental and confidential space from which together we may be able to help you discover answers that lie within you.
I was trained in a model called Personal Consultancy which enables the integration of techniques from a range of different counselling and coaching approaches to best suit the client. It allows for looking to the past for answers as well as finding techniques to move successfully onwards, while addressing unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour. Some clients may prefer a more forward-looking approach – this is likely to be the most suitable approach for children and teenagers, for example; while others may need to look to their past to understand the origins of unhelpful patterns or rules for living. Awareness is the start of change.
I have worked with adults in charities and private practice in east London, and children in primary schools in Essex, who have sought help with issues such as anxiety and depression, relationships, trauma, bereavement, illness and identity.
For children, I offer art and play therapy, which might involve drawing, clay, sand and storytelling to help with the release of difficult feelings for which they may not have language for.
I hold an MSc/ PGDip in Integrative Counselling and Coaching from the University of East London; a Certificate in Counselling Children Using the Arts from the Institute for the Arts in Therapy and Education, at the Centre for Child Mental Health.
I am fully insured, DBS checked and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by its code of ethics.
If this way of working sounds like something that might suit you I can offer a free 30-minute telephone or online consultation, with no commitment. Research shows the quality of the relationship between counsellor and client is the most important factor in determining a good outcome from therapy, so it is important to find the right therapist for you.
My fees are £55 for 50 minutes. Sessions are held weekly at the same time and place.
